About Spirulina Pledge

Today, more than one third of the inhabitants of our planets are deprived of the basic right to food. Malnutrition is the major threat faced by mankind and must be trounced with incessant efforts. It disempowers and affects the lives of around 852 million people globally in drastic way. It severely diminishes the human capital of a country and its multifarious impacts hinder the universal achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals*.

The Campaign “IIMSAM Spirulina Pledge” is an integrated endeavor of IIMSAM with its aim to combat and overcome malnutrition through the use of micro-algae Spirulina. Spirulina was declared as the best food for the future by the United Nations World Food Conference in the year 1974 to eradicate malnutrition and to achieve food security.

IIMSAM Spirulina Pledge is a substantial measure dedicated to remove malnutrition across the globe. The core idea is to make Spirulina, "the super food" available to poor and ravenous people, wherever needed, by the one who have power over. It will be massively distributed to indigent people and to victims of humanitarian urgencies.

IIMSAM Spirulina Pledge, a global campaign, can be taken by anyone who wants to contribute, giving an opportunity to every sentient person to participate in this worthy cause. National and Local Governments, Prominent Individuals, Celebrities, NGO’s, Private Sector ,or a common man may pledge certain amount of Spirulina for next 5 years to IIMSAM. The Pledge could be as low as 1Kg and as high as 100,000 Kgs.

A small amount of Spirulina contribution will change several lives of those who are physically stunted, intellectually disabled and vulnerable to illness due to lack of proper nutrition. This pledge also aims to spread awareness, to utilize Spirulina, to eradicate malnutrition and to serve a cause of humanity.

Spirulina will guarantee sufficient level of nutrition and public health as it is abundant in essential proteins, minerals and vitamins that can be easily assimilated by the human body and will thus help in fighting the biggest hazard of global food hunger.

IIMSAM Spirulina Pledge will be completely recorded and audited and will maintain its transparency for its people. IIMSAM will continuously track every pledge so one could get the details of its every gram which has been utilised. The details will specifically include the names of villages, towns, NGOs or staff, stake holders associated with it.

It is essential that every individual should have access to food which is sufficient, nutritionally adequate and safe without the distinction of race, religion, political belief, or economic and social condition.

Real progress will only be accomplished when the basic needs are fulfilled.

What is the difference between a drug and a dietary supplement?

A dietary supplement is a preparation used to provide nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, fiber, fatty acids or amino acids that are not normally consumed in sufficient quantity in a person's diet and are meant to improve ones diet. Drugs may be prescribed for a limited duration, or on a regular basis for chronic disorders. Spirulina is a dietary supplement and not a drug.
