Project Haiti

IIMSAM with its Official Partner The JRFMedical Centre led by its Director and IIMSAM Goodwill Ambassador Dr. Alan Goldsmith moved immediately to help the victims of the earthquake which struck Haiti by adopting a fasttrack "primary emergency team of medical experts" for immediate relief activities.

Dr. Alan Goldsmith leadership headed the IIMSAM-IMAP Medical Expert Team for immediate medical support. IIMSAM-IMAP medical experts visited partner hospitals of the JRF-Centre treat patients, provided medical equipment, medicines, water etc. Patients with special needs were transported to our partner's JRF Medical Centre in New Jersey for treatment.

IIMSAM is always committed to help Haiti in improving the health of its peoples and in particular fighting malnutrition through our 2010 projected pilot-project in the Republic of Haiti by establishing a na Distribution Nutritional Centre. Such as the Dar Al Muamineen IIMSAM Centre in The Republic of Kenya which serves over 5000 children and adults suffering from malnutrition and other deprivations and diseases resulting from undernourishment amongst disabled children and others suffering from malnutrition and HIV/AIDS.

Haiti, the third hungriest country in the world
Haiti is the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, with an annual estimated gross domestic product (GDP) of $390 per person or less than a $2 a day.

80% of the population lives below the level of absolute poverty. One in 10 children dies before the age of 5 and malnutrition is the leading cause of death in children. One third of 1 year olds show signs of severe growth retardation and forty percent of all 5 year olds have stunted growth and brain development. Less than half of the population has access to health care. There are 3,970 babies born infected with HIV each year. Moreover, recent statistics put the unemployment rate at 70%, and over half of the population is illiterate.
